About the Founder

Hi! My name is Ashley, and I am the founder of SALT Magazine.
I graduated from UVic with a degree in writing. I specialized in nonfiction writing and minored in publishing and communications.
I started SALT because I wanted a publication that actually reflected life in Vancouver: the neighbourhoods, the food, the local stories, and small discoveries worth writing about. I have a deep belief that local stories deserve to be told well. SALT is where I do that.
I have been published in:
The West Vancouver Historical Society
Local stories and events
The Guardian
Climate change in Brazil
The Martlet
Competitive Canadian cheerleading
Values
Quality
I take my time. My features are thoroughly researched, beautifully written, and designed to be worth your attention in a world overflowing with clickbait and hot takes.
Community
The aim is to bring young adults together virtually to be in the loop with each other. Whether that be exploring local cafes or finding the next cool shoe - you can savour it on SALT.
Local Priority
SALT exists to celebrate what makes Vancouver special. By researching local brands and shining a light on the communities that define this city.
